Shillong, 25th August,2026:  Tourism in Meghalayais facing a setback following violence during a KSU rally in Shillong on August19, with tourism operators reporting cancellations of nearly 80-90 per cent ofbookings in Shillong, Sohra and nearby areas. The figure is based on feedbackfrom hotels and homestays and has not been independently verified. Operatorssaid concerns over safety and disruptions along the Assam-Meghalaya route couldfurther hurt tourism ahead of the Durga Puja and Christmas seasons. Tourismbodies have condemned the violence and urged authorities to restore normalmovement. Industry leaders said swift action is needed to rebuild touristconfidence and prevent further cancellations.
