BJP–TIPRA Motha Talks Ahead of Village Committee Polls

Agartala,26th August, 2026: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has indicated the possibility of an electoral understanding between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and TIPRA Motha ahead of the upcoming village committee polls in the state.

Speaking on the political developments, Saha suggested that discussions could take place between the two parties, signalling a possible coordination at the grassroots level. The indication comes as political parties prepare for the village committee elections, which are expected to be closely watched for their potential impact on Tripura’s local political landscape.

TIPRA Motha, led by Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, has emerged as an important political force in Tripura, particularly among indigenous communities. The party joined the BJP-led state government in 2024, with Animesh Debbarma and Brishaketu Debbarma becoming ministers.

An electoral understanding between the BJP and TIPRA Motha could reshape contest strategies in several village committee areas and help both parties consolidate their support base. However, the exact nature and scope of any alliance remain unclear.
