CBI Books Arunachal Activist Bhanu Tatak Over Alleged FCRA Violations

New Delhi, September 16, 2026: The CBI has registered a case against Arunachal Pradesh-based lawyer and environmental activist Bhanu Tatak, alleging violations of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA).

According to the CBI FIR, Tatak allegedly received more than ₹17.6 lakh in foreign funds between 2022 and 2025 from overseas organisations and individuals without mandatory FCRA registration or prior permission. The agency has also alleged that she did not file income-tax returns and that the receipts were not reflected in official records.

The CBI further alleged that the funds were used to support anti-dam protests in Arunachal Pradesh.
