Centre Releases Onion Buffer Stocks to Control Prices

New Delhi, 27th August 2026: The Central Government has begun a targeted release of onions from its buffer stock to ensure adequate supply and control seasonal price rises. The move comes ahead of the festive and wedding season, when demand generally increases. The first Kanda Express carrying onions has left Nashik for Delhi-NCR, while road consignments are being sent to other major cities. The government plans to sell onions at ₹35 per kg through NCCF, NAFED, Safal and Kendriya Bhandar outlets. With onion production estimated at 307.37 lakh tonnes, the government expects supplies to remain comfortable and prices to stabilise.
