Agartala, September 27,2026: The Battala–Jirania road, one of the important routes connecting commuters to various parts of the capital and its outskirts, has been witnessing severe traffic congestion due to the deteriorating condition of the road and the movement of heavy commercial vehicles during peak hours.

Several stretches of the road are reportedly riddled with potholes, uneven surfaces and damaged portions. The situation becomes particularly difficult during the rainy season, when water accumulates on the damaged road surface, making movement hazardous for motorists and pedestrians.

The problem is aggravated during the morning and evening peak hours when trucks, dumpers and multi-axle vehicles share the already congested road with school buses, public transport and private vehicles. Traffic jams frequently bring vehicular movement to a standstill, causing considerable delays for office-goers, students and other daily commuters.

Commuters have expressed concern over the safety risks posed by the poor road condition, particularly for two-wheelers and pedestrians. They have urged the authorities to undertake immediate repair and maintenance work and improve drainage along the route.

A section of the public has also appealed to the Transport Department to consider regulating the movement of heavy commercial vehicles between 8:00 am and 11:00 am and 4:30 pm and 7:30 pm, when traffic volume is at its highest.

Residents and daily commuters hope that the concerned authorities will take prompt steps to repair the damaged road and regulate heavy-vehicle movement to ensure smoother and safer traffic along the Battala–Jirania route.
