Agartala, October 7,2026: A day after the Village Committee election results were announced, Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma announced his decision to step away from active politics. Speaking on social media on October 6, he said he would no longer remain active in politics after next month, citing health-related reasons.

However, Pradyot Kishore made it clear that his withdrawal from active politics would not mean distancing himself from the people. He said he would continue to speak on issues concerning the rights, justice and interests of the Tiprasa community whenever necessary.

Referring to the Village Committee election results, he said the outcome should not be viewed merely as a victory for any particular political party. He noted that after nearly a decade, the elections had restored local representation to villagers and urged the newly elected representatives to work honestly.

His announcement has triggered speculation over Tipra Motha’s future leadership and the political direction of Tripura’s tribal areas.
