SIT Probe into Death of Bir Lachit Sena Leader

Guwahati, 27th August,2026: Assam Police has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the death of Bir Lachit Sena leader Manasjyoti Chetia in Sivasagar. Chetia died on August 25 while undergoing treatment after an incident reported in Bihubar on August 23. The SIT is headed by Sivasagar Deputy Superintendent of Police Lila Bora and includes other senior police officers. Five people have been detained for questioning in connection with the case. Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident and allegations made in the complaint filed by the organisation. The investigation aims to establish the facts and determine responsibility.
